Patricia Swamp wallaby

January 2007

For Patricia& Nathan

This very young Swamp wallaby joey was brought in to care after being found in her dead mothers pouch on the road at Bangalow by Patricia. She has bruising to her leg, but no broken bones. She will be in care for about 11 months before being released back to the wild.

Thank you Patricia for stopping and checking the pouch of a dead animal on the road. Without you this tiny joey would not have survived.

UPDATE February 2007

"Patricia" the joey is doing well in care, seen here 6 weeks after arrival with a Red Neck Pademelon that arrived in to care shortly after "Patricia".

The Pademelon was found alone, calling loudly next to a chicken coop fence. How she was orphaned we do not know, but she is thriving in care.

Thank you to Nathan for calling WIRES immediately after finding this small animal.

UPDATE April 2007

Patricia is now outside in a larger enclosure, spending her days mainly sleeping in swampwallby_patriciaher pouch, but also out of her pouch munching on foilage, and eating grass.

She has the company of other wallabies in care, learning from each other how to behave in their world. This is something we as carers can not teach them, they have to learn from each other.
