CHRISTINA

17th October 2005

Christina and John were on their way home, when they came across a dead Wallaby on the road. They stopped to check the pouch, and discovered a small joey firmly attached to the teat in Mum's pouch.

They called WIRES and consequently the joey was brought in to care. The joey is a Swamp wallaby, very young, eyes still closed, but it did not have time to go cold in Mums pouch, so it does have a good chance at life, thanks to Christina and John.

Our little female Swamp wallaby is seen here after 1 week in care, her eyes are not yet open, she is progressing well in care. She is fed every 4 hours around the clock.

Another Swamp wallaby was brought in to Byron Bay Veterinary clinic soon after Christina, this little fellow was not at all well on arrival, he was cold, and dehydrated.

His recovery however was fairly fast as he was warmed and given nourishment, he soon showed an interest in life once again. Seen here 2 weeks after arrival you can clearly see the color under his skin, an indication that fur is about to grow through.

February 2006

Unfortunately Christina died late one evening with no indication prior that anything was wrong. It is not often that this happens, but of course it does on occasion, and it is very sad for everyone involved to loose an animal after such a long time in care. She had grown to almost 2 kilo when she died.

Christina seen herea few weeks before she passed away suddenly.

Our little male wallaby is doing well still, and fortunately has other friends in care with him.
